Today — for my own amusement — I listened to some Christian talk radio. Evangelicals are pretty panicky about the fact that Sen. Barack Obama was elected President; caller after caller voiced what they thought were real concerns about how the entire of creation and was doomed because a(n) [open] liberal will be in the White House. To them, it. Was. The. End. Of. The. World.

Am I concerned? Sure, but I would have been just as concerned (for different reasons) had Sen. John McCain been elected.

God is still on his throne, and rulers still rule at his pleasure. Sometimes, He exercises his judgement through them, and I suspect that is why this election came down to either McCain or Obama — America was going to be judged. While my personal political views don’t jibe with either of those candidates, I also understand that they are children — and servants — of God, whether they realize it or not.

And with that in mind, I offer up this prayer:

O LORD our Governor, whose glory is in all the world; We commend this nation to thy merciful care, that being guided by thy Providence, we may dwell secure in thy peace. Grant to President-elect Barack Obama, and to all in Authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do thy will. Fill them with the love of truth and righteousness; and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve this people in thy fear; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.
